Brave Heart, Children in Need began in 2004 when a four year old girl was removed from her home and was taken into the foster care system. The child was unclean, had no shoes on her feet, and cried inconsolably. Many times the children when removed, come out of the home with nothing but the clothes they are wearing.
Brave Heart, as a nonprofit organization, is focused on improving the quality of life for children who are experiencing the trauma of being removed from their homes due to abuse and/or neglect. Brave Heart participates in many community projects and activities regarding the challenges facing Louisiana's most vulnerable population - children in the foster care system. We are inspired by the concept that tangible items can be a source of comfort and consistency for these children. Ultimately, it is not about the contents of a backpack or gift bag but the idea of reassuring a child in crisis with a small ray of hope, encouragement and comfort.
