The Brave Heart Children

Children from birth to age 18 many times must be removed from their  homes when often their home proves to be an unsafe environment in which to live.  This removal occurs due to the behavior and/or lifestyle of the parent or guardian, which is beyond the control of the child.

Brave Heart works throughout the state of Louisiana to assist children that are put into foster care. Brave Heart began by helping one social worker and has grown to serve several thousand children throughout the state. We are able to work with the Office of Community Service to offer our services. The children served in 2008 by the Office of Community Service are as follows:

Baton Rouge Region: 620 children in 2008

Covington Region: 1,503 children in 2008

Thibodaux Region: 588 children in 2008

Lafayette Region: 1,435 children in 2008

Monroe Region: 619 children in 2008

Five Region Totals for Calendar Year 2008: 4,765

The children that are removed from their homes and enter the foster care system often have more obstacles and challenges to face in order to grow into healthy and productive adults. These children are a part of our community and as a community it is our responsibility to support them.

Since 2004 Brave Heart has offered services to the children in the foster system. In 2007 Brave Heart began offering to the Young Adult Program (ages 18-21) educational scholarships in order to encourage and scaffold their success. There were 349 youth in the young adult program in 2008. It is our goal to help each child continue their education, overcome obstacles, and have all the advantages they deserve.

"A hundred years from now it will not matter what my bank account was,
the sort of house I lived in , or the kind of car I drove...
but the world may be different because I was important in the life of child."
